This morning students wrote: "Check e-mail for February Newsletter" in their agendas. The corresponding email has been sent.
While the Grade 2's were away for gym with Mme Harding, Grade 1's were tested on spelling, and learned about their sense of taste. We began by discussing which part of our body controls our sense of taste. Students were given the chance to examine their tongues using hand held mirrors, and were asked to describe what they see (bumps-taste buds). We talked about how our taste buds are what send the message to our brain, telling us what we are tasting. We then learned about the different tastes-sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and how there are different sections of the tongue that distinguishes each taste. Students discussed how taste contributes to our quality of life, and why we need it. Finally, we talked about an animal's sense of taste, and how it works.
Students enjoyed music with Mme Dominique.
We had a special visit by an RCMP officer this morning who allowed us to ask all kinds of questions.
Shortly after little recess and snack, students who had not finished their agendas had the chance to do so... We then completed a round of French daily 5 (Grade 1 students who did not finish the writing they've been working on, were asked to do so during this time). Then we decoded our Daily morning message (continuing to focus on cutting big words into smaller and more readable chunks). One of our grade 2 students lead us through the calendar document.
After a few dancing brain breaks, we moved on to Sciences. Grade 2's learned about how water gets to our homes, while the grade 1's completed a fun worksheet on the sense of taste.
This afternoon grade 1 and 2 students completed a round of Daily 5. After this, they used Seesaw to complete some French Oral work Grade 2's talked about Meteghan, while the grade 1's talked about the person they worked so hard to write about!
Grade 1's were given time to play some of the French games on the Ipads.
