This morning grade 1 students wrote: "Make an addition story tonight." in their agendas. Grade 2's wrote: "Practice your math doubles tonight." (2+2/3+3/4+4 etc)
Today's morning message focused on reminding the kids of my absence tomorrow, and the expectations in regards to this. They were very excited that Mme Guylaine would be teaching them again.
In French, I introduced the class to the "bâtons".... Our goal amount is 15 bâtons each, which they must earn before the last day of school. I told the class that if they forcefully come and speak to me in French, I would not give them a bâton, only if it is spontaneous, or if they are answering a question, and putting in a great deal of effort to make it French.
Grade 2's continued to work on their dinosaur writing. Grade 1's continued to learn about the correlation between their rights and responsibilities.
After an outdoor recess (YAY!) and snack, grade 2's continued to practice addition and subtraction in their math books.
Grade 1's learned that with a little imagination, you can create any math story! You just need to make sure that your listener knows what you want them to do (add!) For example: "There were 2 dinosaurs, and 3 dinosaurs..." without adding, "how many dinosaurs were there in total?" to your story, you do not know what action to take... So we practiced! Grade 1's told their grade 2 friends an addition story.
In religion we learned about the Annunciation, and Elizabeth, Mary's cousin.
This afternoon, the class began to learn about the different types of stories, and how every story has a different purpose and audience (Non-fiction, purpose: to learn audience: anyone, Fiction, purpose: to entertain audience: anyone, diary: purpose: to keep note, audience: you).
The class enjoyed gym with Mme Harding.
We ended the day identifying the different purpose and audience of some books!
