This morning Grade 1 students wrote: "Practice French flashcards." in their agendas, and Grade 2 students wrote: "Read a French book to your stuffy."-this can also be mom or dad!
At the assembly, students were pumped to hear about the Terry Fox run on Friday, and learn about Terry Fox. As an initiative to encourage your child to bring "toonies for Terry", the school has decided that one of the following two prizes will be given to the students of our school if we reach our goal of 700$. The prize will either be: The staff will sing Karaoke at our Monday morning assembly. OR The staff will dance with Jodi during the assembly.
After the long assembly, we returned to the classroom and read our morning message with introduced our new words of the week: regarde, dans, grand, petit, est. and our new sounds of the week am, an (like the on sound in the word long).
Grade 1 students completed their final lesson about transposing patterns-a reminder that they will be evaluated tomorrow. During the Grade 1 focus lesson, Grade 2's completed a reading comprehension activity about le pupitre. When the Grade 1's were ready for independent work, Grade 2's began problem solving patterns (you have 3 red beads, 6 brown beads and 6 blue beads, make a pattern).
Once math was done, students enjoyed Music with Mme Dominique.
This afternoon, Grade 1 students enjoyed gym with Mme Harding while Grade 2's continued to learn about hot and cold. They learnt all about reading a thermometer and certain temperature. Please check out my Sciences page for some fun games to help your child with reading the temperature.
Following this, we dove back into math and began to learn about increasing patterns... Please take a look at my Math grade 2 page, specifically the game: "arithmetic 4 kids" growing patterns. It is in the form of a quiz, however it will help your child with the concept.
Once the Grade 1's returned, we read our afternoon message. We then were able to listen to the Magic E song and watch the Magic power of E video and then go back to our message and find all of our magic E's.
We were surprised with a visit from our school councillor Denise Ferre. She came to speak to the children about her role in the school and how her door was open for anyone with problems. We especially talked about the size of the problem. Denise will be at school every Monday.
The class earned their speaking French for the day prize, which was an "extra recess" we went outside for 5 minutes at the end of the day.
