This morning students wrote: "Ask me about making safe web-searches" in their agendas.

Grade 1 students were tested on their sight words today. Your child brought home the list that they need to practice, as well as all of the preceding lists, remember that the lists go from most important (lists 1-3) to least (4-11), and so it is always good to mix up the sight word lists to keep your child sharp. Please take a look at my Sight Words Page if ever you lose a list, you can print up another. You should also look at the Sight Words Information link and Sight Words Games and Activities for ways to mix it up!

Grade 1 and 2 students participated to calendar time, where we started with a morning message, and the class was directed to look for our combo French sounds (am, an, oi) and words of the week (regarde, dans, grand, petit, est).

Once calendar was completed Grade 2's continued working in their reading comprehension book: "Dans mon pupitre" and Grade 1's continued their "C'est l'automne" book.

The class enjoyed some running games in the gym.

We were surprised by a Fire drill at 10:20am.

After little recess, Grade 1 students completed their patterns evaluation (their unit book was sent home on Monday) during which time Grade 2's completed a hotter than/colder than Sciences activity. Following this, Grade 2's continued their "Dans mon pupitre book", and Grade 1's finished their "C'est l'automne" books. When the Grade 1's had finished, they were partnered up with a Grade 2 partner to read their book to the Grade 2 friend, and have the Grade 2 as their "teacher" to help them read the words they did not know. It was so impressive to watch, what beauty it is to see such collaboration and team work with children!

1/2C spoke so much French this morning that they earned their two extra "brain breaks".

We continued working in our printing books, starting on Flagpole letters: L, I and T.

This afternoon we met our new words of the week: with, all, friend. We found these words in our message.

Following this we had a writers workshop mini-lesson about bringing all of your tools to the table before doing writers workshop.

We ended our day by learning about finding websites that are "Just Right for Me", avoiding unsafe and inappropriate websites and thinking through difficult situations. Hopefully this concept was grasped well enough that your child can explain what a safe search is and how to make it safe!
