This morning students wrote "We have library tomorrow" in their agendas.
The school participated to our weekly assembly.
When we arrived back in class, the students chose what they would like to do: read to self, read to a partner or listen to a story (in French) and did so for 15 minutes, afterwards we had a small sharing circle where the students had the opportunity to share (in French) what they did over the weekend. Once the sharing circle was done, we only had time to complete our morning message, and calendar activity.
After small recess, grade 2 students began to use groups of tens and ones to identify a number. They were then asked to use base ten blocs to represent their numbers. Once they represented them, they were asked to count aloud (which forced them to skip count by 10's!) They also needed to compare a ten grid with a rod (10).
Grade 1 students were asked to to explain the use of being able to name the number that is one more, one less, two more, two less. They were then explained that every time you name those numbers, you are actually counting backwards or forwards, and so sometimes it's helpful to have a number line. Each student was given a number line, and was asked to use it to represent a number that is one more, one less, two more, two less than the number I gave them.
The class enjoyed music with all of the grade 1 classes. The grade 2's were asked to participate to this grade 1 music lesson, as they know their songs, and are strong singers, this helped the grade 1's with their singing abilities. Mme Dominique thanks them!
This afternoon, while the grade 1's were away for gym, the grade 2's were tested on their sight words, everyone did a super job! They were then pre-tested on their new French words: parce que, ici, c'est, merci, cet/cette. All of these words have something in common: a soft C!!! The class then began to wrap up their hot and cold science unit, by discussing the way that places are heated up. Unfortunately we did not have time to finish, and so we will continue tomorrow morning.
Grade 2's participated to the Zones lesson with Mme Ferre.
Grade 1's participated to my strong start lesson, we began to identify our physical reactions to feelings.
We ended our day with Daily 5.
