This morning students wrote: "Franco-Folie field trip is tomorrow." in their agendas.
While the grade 2's were away for gym, grade 1's were tested on sight words, and began to learn about the needs of plants. Students identified the requirements for plants to maintain life; i.e., air, light, water, food (air, and the nutrients of the earth) space. Then I asked the class to tell me what I would need to do if I wanted to have a marigold, viola, or petunia. They listed: water, soil, something to put the soil in, seeds and a sunny spot. We then planted marigold, viola and petunia seeds. We also planted tomato seeds!
When the grade 2's returned we read our morning message, then we were visited by one of our students' new puppy: a black lab named Philip-He was very cute.
We returned to work, and finished our calendar document led by a grade 2 student.
Parts were chosen for our "Jacques et le haricot magique" play. We started a first read-through.
After snack and little recess, we went to Mme Chalifoux's kindergarten class to read!
Once back in the classroom we finished reading our play.
Then, the grade 1's created a Fruit/Vegetable person, that they will write about later in the week, while grade 2's continued to learn about magnets. Today we learned about the different types of magnets-bars, horseshoe etc.
In religion, we learned about the story of Lazarus.
After lunch and big recess, students completed a round of Daily 5, then we finished working in our "Little Book of Punctuation"-this was brought home.
Students ended their day in Music with Mme Dominique.
