This morning students wrote: "Hot lunch is tomorrow" in their agendas. This is only for students who ordered!! Grade 2 students also wrote: "Name one traditional food in my family"
Students completed their French round of daily 5, followed by practicing reading and math strategies with our morning message. Today we learned a new French reading strategy. Before reading a page, "cross off" the s's, p's, t's d's etc. at the end of the word-especially if they do not have a vowel afterwards, because these letters are shhhhhhh silent!!!
One of our grade 2 students led us through calendar time. We read a French book about being deaf-this helped grade 1's review the adaptations there are for people who have lost one of their senses, and grade 2's were able to practice re-telling and explaining the story in French to their grade 1 classmates.
We returned to the Science/French winter work we began yesterday. Today the class was asked to write about what they drew. Grade 1's students followed the model: "'The trees are bare. I can see ______ it is winter" (Les arbres sont nus. Je vois _________. C'est l'hiver. ". Grade 2 students were asked to write a few sentences to describe what they smelled/heard/tasted/touched/saw outside (G2 is a year of learning to describe your environment effectively in French)
Students shared their writing.
After small recess and snack, we answered a math question, practicing our "flip the equation" strategy.
Grade 1's defined what a community is. We talked about what makes a community, and who belongs to communities. Students then began a project that will show them in correlation to the world.
Grade 2's began to learn about Acadian traditions. We danced to some Acadian music.
During religion the class learned about Jesus as a boy.
This afternoon, we completed a round of daily 5. Students practiced removing the "topping" during our afternoon message.
Students enjoyed gym with Mme Harding.
The class ended the day with Writers Workshop
