This morning students wrote: "Scholastic book orders due tomorrow" in their agendas.

While the Grade 2's were away for gym with Mme Harding, grade 1's were tested on sight words, and continued to learn about their five senses. We revisited what we learned about our sense of hearing, talking about how it works, and how it contributes to the safety and quality of life. We described ways that people adapt to the limitations of our sense, and what those adaptations are called (hearing aids). We watched a video about how our ears work : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSO765hyxrc Finally, we reviewed ways of taking care of our sense of hearing...

We then reviewed the sense of sight. Students were reminded that before Christmas they were given magnifying glasses to look closely at what they could find in the classroom, we reviewed how the magnifying glasses helped us see better. We then talked about people who have problems with their sense of sight (color blindness, blindness etc) and in order to understand the adaptations a blind person must make, the class learned the story of Louis Braille https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IQKqPaICKI and made Braille name cards.

When the grade 2's returned, we decoded and read our morning math question. Students are becoming better and better at answering questions that have an unknown variable! YAY!

After completing the calendar document, and reading a French themed book, students prepared some winter writing. We discussed the activity we completed in the fall of going outside, drawing our tree, and writing about the season (With our five senses for G2). I told the class that we would be doing the same thing, but for winter! So we brainstormed what makes winter winter...

Students went outside and were asked to draw their tree in the winter time (G2's were asked to draw what they see, smell, taste, touch and feel-as it is a French grade 2 writing objective) We will write about it tomorrow.

The class enjoyed little recess, followed by a snack.

We completed a quiet round of French Daily 5, and then the students were given a brain break.

In mathematics, students completed another practice page that encouraged them to flip the equation.

In religion we began to learn about the time that St. John the Baptist baptized Jesus.

After lunch and big recess, we had a class discussion about being quick to come back into the classroom after big recess, and why we need to be quick... The class completed a round of daily 5.

We decoded and read an afternoon message about using "say the first sound, and let the rest of the word *pop* into your head" We practiced using this strategy.

We continued to learn about St. John the baptist.

Students ended their day in music with Mme Dominique.
