This morning students wrote: "Ask be about using Spheros" in their agendas.
We completed our quiet round of French Daily 5, followed by our math themed morning message, followed by Calendar time.
Grade 1 students were asked to continue the writing they began yesterday, while the Grade 2 students were tested on the spelling words they were given before Christmas-there were no high expectations of success today, just the hopes that the words stuck over the break. Grade 2's received their new spelling words for this week, which focus on the er/ir/ur combo sound: interesting, together, hurt, picture, circle. Throughout the week they will complete the practice pages in their spelling books. Grade 2's also observed the evaporation Science experiment we began yesterday. We reviewed the science terms we learned.
For gym today, we went outside and used the snow shoes...
After little recess, and snack, we had a bit of time to practice flipping the equation again, before running off to the library to exchange our books. The class participate to the ATB Grand opening in the gym, where our Branch workers were introduced.
During lunch and big recess, students were encouraged to go to the ATB bank (in the library) to deposit money, and begin saving.
This afternoon, with the help of Mlle Timmer, students learned to use the Spheros in the library. It was interesting to see who could apply their coding skills to control Sphero.
We ended the day by adding the final finishing touch to our art projects, a round of daily 5, and an afternoon message about removing "toppings" from words. (If you remove the "topping" ed from the "root" word removed, it can potentially make the word less overwhelming, and therefore easier to read).
