This morning students wrote: "Work on my reading log." in their agendas.

While the grade 2's were away for gym with Mme Harding, the grade 1's were tested on sight words, and learned about their sense of smell. Grade 1's reviewed what they knew about the sense of smell (your nose captures smell and sends a message to your brain). Students then had the opportunity to use their sense of smell to identify and describe cups containing different objects. Students met this expectation by describing what they smelled, what they believed it was, and whether it smelt good or bad.

When the grade 2's returned, the class completed  the morning message, followed by our calendar document. We then red a French Christmas-themed book, which led us into French writing. Grade 1's were encouraged to follow the model: "Dans le traineau du Père Noël il y a # objet couleur pour action" (In Santa's sleigh there are # color object for action". Grade 2's were encouraged to write using the sleigh as their prompt, what could you say about the sleigh? Are there reindeer by the sleigh? etc. Both grades 1 & 2 did a GREAT job!

After indoor recess, snack and French daily 5, we continued to develop our mathematical thinking strategy for basic facts, by naming the number that is one more/two more. We then began to practice naming the number that is one less/two less-this proved to be more difficult! It may be something that you should practice at home! Grade 1's then practiced looking at a picture and writing the correct action (4+5=9) Grade 2's began practicing solving word problems.

In Religion, we talked about how in this third week of advent, we are remembering that Jesus is the light of the world, and that by following him, we can be good people.

This afternoon the class had music with Mme Dominique, the concert is approaching rapidly!

The class had English daily 5, we reviewed the expectations: read quietly, read the whole time, stay in one spot, get started right away, and work on your stamina. We especially reviewed what  stamina is-this may be something you could do at home as well! (What is stamina: even though my brain and body is tired, I keep trying-even though I don't feel like it, I try to beat my laziness etc.)

We ended our day by finishing writing our handwritten letters to santa, students received their digital letters that they wrote yesterday, and finally, we began to write a collective Christmas story.
