This morning students wrote: "Read for 10 minutes tonight." in their agendas. What a great way to encourage them to fill a picture for their reading log!

First thing today, grade 1's had music, and so the grade 2's learned about Nova-Scotia's past. We learned that the first people to live in Nova-Scotia were the Mi'kMaq's, following them came the French who were searching for new land, then the English made the French leave, because they wanted to take over the land, finally, the French returned, which is why Acadiens speak French and English. We will be revisiting this tomorrow.

When the grade 1's returned, we completed our morning message and calendar time, we learned some new French words of the week: "Pour, j'ai, avec, tu, aime". We also played "action charades".

For the next few weeks in gym we will be doing yoga, and so today we began to learn a few positions.

After our indoor recess and snack, the class did some read to self in French. Grade 1 students then added French Christmas words, and action words to their French dictionnaries, they were also directed to find all of the combo sounds. Grade 2's were tested on their spelling words, and they were pre-tested on this week's spelling, which focuses on the two vowels go walking rule.

Grade 2's finished their math evaluation.

Grade 1's continued to learn about part-part-whole for numbers (every number can be made of two parts) they also learned about counting on (Naming the biggest part: 5, counting on... 6, 7... RATHER than counting the group of 5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, then the group of 2; 6, 7)

The class exchanged library books, and enjoyed their centers.

This afternoon, we did daily 5, an afternoon message, and we learned about the ack sound family.

Grade 1's and 2's then wrote a beginning for the world freezes...
