This morning students wrote: "Bring your library books tomorrow." in their agendas. If I have been working with your child on reading strategies for non-fiction books, it may be beneficial that you encourage them to take non-fiction books out of the library, as there are many more than the ones in our school leveled book bags...

The school participated to the weekly assembly, where the Jr. ATB Financial school program was presented. This is a program that allows grades 4-6 students to apply and receive a job within the "EMP ATB branch". Students from grades 1-6 can submit an application to open up a real ATB account (with your approval of course) and on banking days they can bring in their money to the EMP bank, where their money will be placed into their very much real account. What a great way to start encouraging your child to save!

Once back in the classroom, the class read to self/read to a partner/listened to a story, following this they participated to our morning French message and calendar. From now on, every day, one student will lead the class in the calendar document, this is to encourage the class to become more fluent in the pages, as well as it gives each student a chance to do every page.

We did not have time to do our French activities, and so Dinosaurs and Action words will be moved to tomorrow. Instead, the class had snack, followed by an indoor recess (-27 degrees is a little chilly!)

After indoor recess, the class enjoyed music with Mme Dominique and the other grade 2 students.

In mathematics, the class completed a number evaluation: they were asked to write the number from 0-100, and even past 100, it was quite interesting to see the different results.

Grade 1's then began their addition and subtraction unit, by revisiting the part-part-whole strategy.

Grade 2's began their math evaluation of naming  the position of an object.

Unfortunately, Mme Ferre was sick with the flu today, and so Zones and Strong Start were cancelled. Instead, we did Daily 5, and the class was presented with Writers Workshop as a daily 5 choice. Because we have been working on the different parts of a story, they do not get to do as much "free writing" time, and so this writers workshop as a choice encourages them to still be able to write as they wish.

We learned about the reading strategy: flip the sound. We talked about all the letters that make two sounds: a, e, i, o, u, y, c, g and how if you're reading a word, and it doesn't sound right, try to flip the vowel sound!

We learned about the og family, and read a book about it!

We ended the day with learning about the true meaning of the season of advent.
