Good evening grade 1 parents!
This morning's agenda message was "We have library tomorrow" don't forget to send those books in!
We then read a small message about clothing, which introduced us to our new French theme: "les vêtements". We then did a group activity of brainstorming all the different clothes we can think of, and then describing a student in the classroom by what they were wearing. We also learnt the sound: "ai" this sound makes the same sound as the e in english (the first e sound from the word elephant)
For Math, we started to learn the word "addition" and we also learned to solve simple math word problems.
Sciences was a lot of fun, because we got to make cards out of molding clay, and have our partner guess what the shape of our card was by just using their hands! We then discussed how our skin is what covers all of our body, and so are biggest sense is the sense of touch! Students were super excited to take off their shoes and socks and feel the difference between the strength of the skin of their feet compared to their cheeks, and how eventually your skin gets stronger and so your sensitivity to certain things (hot/cold) might weaken! Which is why if mom or dad draw you a bath, it might be too hot, because their sense of touch is more conditioned!
This afternoon we were introduced to our new words of the week: best, house, but, will, day.
Students enjoyed gym with M. Loiselle
Our afternoon consisted of being introduced to the idea that we can take a small seed out of a huge WATERMELON sized idea, and make it a story, just like the author: Angela Johnson.
Have a wonderful day!
