Welcome to my daily updates blog!
For those of you that have already seen this blog, you will know that I enjoy updating it daily. It usually includes information about what your child got up to throughout our day. This blog also allows you, as a parent, to know what is really going on in our classroom, and be more involved with your child's learning.
Here's our first post!
This morning, as students arrived, they began coloring a simple welcome page. Once the bell had rung, and the parents had departed, we gathered in front of the smartboard and introduced ourselves. Shorty thereafter we organized our classroom supplies... this was, of course, a messy job! Following this, the class went over three of our big classroom rules:
Listen
Be respectful
I do my work
We made sure we talked about why these were some of our classroom rules...
Following this, the class enjoyed snack.
After recess, we reviewed our grade one rules, and I asked students to show me what they looked like. We then talked about hallway rules. Following this, students walked through the school (Grade 1's were placed with a Grade 2 buddy) and we exited the school, following the green frogs on the road all the way back to our door (This should help your child find our door much easier tomorrow). We then talked as a class about why we should sometimes work with a different grade partner... This helped our sense of community.
Students wrote 'Grade 1 (or) 2 is fun!' in their agendas. We talked about what they needed to do when they got to school tomorrow (Take out agenda's and start writing right away!)
I then read a French story about a little super hero boy and his problems at school, and how he dealt with them. We then did some French writing.
Shortly after, it was lunch time!!
After big recess, we read a book called First Day Jitters, and students enjoyed a Magic Play-dough activity (ask them all about it!) We then did some 'On My First Day Of First Grade' writing, and 'Second Grade Predictions' writing. Your child was encouraged to sound out their words as best as they could, which is the FIRST step to becoming a writer!
Students enjoyed gym with Mme Harting.
Upon their return, they finished writing, we read one final book, and it was home time!!
I hope your child had as much fun as I did!
