Our agenda message today was: "See you Tuesday!" Please remember that we do not have school on Monday! Enjoy the long weekend...
If your child is the youngest attending our school, please verify their pochette for a green emergency contact card. This needs to be returned to us as soon as possible.
After completing agenda, we read a book about a little unruly boy at school, which allowed us to review our classroom expectations.
Students participated to calendar time, where we read a morning message, sang the days of the week, counted the days of the school year and put together the weather! Shortly after, we completed a French Classroom Vocabulary activity-where we were able to show what classroom words we already knew. We also added our first dictionary page to our French dictionaries (The colors!)
After little recess, we discussed our school acronym HRTS. This acronym is used throughout the school as a reminder of our values here at EMP. H- Honesty R- Responsibility T- Tolerance S- Safety. These terms are consistently used when discussing behavioral expectations at school. Students then completed a drawing activity, where they showed what each letter should look like. 4 students presented their drawing today! The rest will be presented next week.
We then introduced our first math unit: PATTERNS! This is the same for Grade 1's as it is for Grade 2's. We talked about what a pattern is. Grade 1's then colored a picture frame with a pattern, and Grade 2's were asked to make an ABBCA pattern!
Following lunch and big recess, students learnt about 2 ways to read a book (read the pictures, read the words) with the book: What if everybody did that? We then began to learn about our first Daily5, read to self. We talked about what really good readers should do when they read to self (read quietly), and then students practiced it once. Next week we will add more expectations to reading to self.
The class enjoyed a brain break.
To end the day, we practiced our best printing in our printing books!
