This morning students wrote: "Scholastic book orders due tomorrow." in their agendas.
First thing today, students practiced reading to self in French, afterwards we completed the morning message, continuing to find the combo sounds that we have been learning since the beginning of the school year. As our regular morning goes, we then went through our calendar routine.
Grade 1's were evaluated on their pre-reading skills in French, as well as their classroom object knowledge. Everyone did very well.
Grade 2's were asked to write about their Thanksgiving, in French! Bravo les amis! I didn't know you could write so well in French.
During our French time, we were visited by Jillian from the St. Albert Public Library, she read to us two French books, and one English books. The students had plenty of fun predicting what would happen in the stories.
In mathematics, Grade 1's were showed another math number game, where they would grab a set of objects, count them, and represent that number of objects with their number cards. Without knowing, your child is practicing representing numbers in many ways. They then practiced drawing a set of objects according to a written number.
Grade 2's were asked to look at a number line from 0-100. I discussed with them the uses of a number line, and how we could count using a number line. Students mentioned counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's and backwards. I then gave each student a 100 number line, and a piece of paper with directions on it. These were brought home. Please practice this, as I have noticed that many students struggled with counting by 1's, 2's 5's and 10's past 70... as 70 is pronounced differently in French than most numbers. Again, please practice counting up to 100 in French. If you need to know how to say these numbers, watch this very helpful Youtube video
In social studies, we began to talk about *special facts about St. Albert. We discussed who founded St. Albert, who was there first, and who came next.
This afternoon we practiced reading to a partner once again. Grade 1's and 2's had fun goofing off and doing read to a partner the wrong way, then practicing doing it the right way.
Students enjoyed gym with Mme Harding.
Back in the classroom, grade 1's continued using descriptive words to talk about the animal pictured in their books. Grade 2's continued practicing their spelling words.
