This morning students wrote: "Sign and return Terry Fox form" in their agendas. Your child also brought home said permission form! IF the permission form did not make it home, there is a digital copy that you can download on the Permission Forms page on my website!
Once our agenda message was written, we headed over to the gym for our weekly assembly. A representative of QSP magazines was there to explain what the QSP fundraiser is. These will be sent home on Friday... your child is probably quite excited about it, as there are some prizes to be won.
After our assembly, we returned to class and completed our morning message, where we were introduced to our new French words of the week: c'est, un, une, et. Once calendar time was done, the class was asked to cut out pictures of classroom supplies, and later in the week they will cut up the corresponding words-this will allow us to complete a fun matching activity.
Little recess and snack came and went, and so we had to leap into Mathematics.
We brainstormed what we knew about patterns: they repeat, have attributes, have a code, a part that repeats etc. Grade 1's were then sent off to complete a pattern that had missing parts, and Grade 2's were also sent off to complete a pattern that had missing parts and attributes-they were also asked to identify said attribute.
Once our math was completed we discussed playing Pokemon at recess, and how we are still required to follow the recess agreement, and we are to be responsible and encourage other friends and classes to do so as well.
We practiced a fire drill.
The class enjoyed Music with Mme Dominique.
This afternoon Grade 1's enjoyed gymnase with Mme Michelle (Mme Harding's sub). Grade 2's continued to learn about hot and cold. They were asked to explore how we can differentiate what is hot and cold (thermometer... etc)
Once the grade 1's had returned to us, we put our old words of the week on the word wall (am I can see the) and cheered our new words of the week (like play to it at). We discussed that all words that are on the word wall are NO EXCUSE words for proper spelling.
Following this we began writers workshop. We lead with the idea that last time we did writing many students thought about what they could DRAW rather than what they could WRITE. We remembered the steps to do for writing: think of a topic, quick sketch and write. All students practiced... Following this the class did a walk around the room to read and look at other classmates writing! WHAT A GREAT AMOUNT OF AUTHORS WE HAVE IN 1/2C!
Great work 1/2C! We didn't even need any brain breaks today!
