This morning students wrote: "No school tomorrow." in their agendas. Please enjoy the weekend-and the extra rest!
Students read our morning message which modeled the writing I expected them to do later in the morning. It specifically introduced using the writing pattern: number object color (Deux stylos vert).
Following our calendar time, we did an activity where they needed to organize the classroom words (flashcards) by alphabetical order. This encouraged them to drop the prefix la, le, and focus specifically on the vocabulary word (because in order to follow the writing pattern of number, object, color, you must remove the prefix).
We then did some classroom writing... Grade 2's were again encouraged to use the knowledge they have from last year, Grade 1's were given a model. Both groups used their dictionaries to help with spelling.
After little recess, we listened to four of our friends present their Recess Agreement drawings. Some children chose to bring them home :) Check them out!
Following this, we did a few brain break dances.
In Mathematics, Grade 1's learned to circle the part that repeats itself in the pattern (the key of the pattern) and Grade 2's learnt to write down what the attributes of a given pattern are.
This afternoon, before heading to the celebration, we reviewed the expectations.
The assembly brought our school district motto into perspective "Opening the doors of Mercy.". We are called to make God's loving mercy visible in all we do and say. The doors of our schools, and the doors of our classrooms will be doors of mercy, in which we put God's love into action. Throughout the year we will learn that as God shows mercy on us, we are called to show mercy to others. We will learn about the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, and put them into action. Students were engaged in listening to the introduction of our theme.
THANK YOU to all parents who attended.
After the assembly, the class had gym with Mme Harding.
Once back from their activities, students had the opportunity to put together their book bag books! Grade 2's brought home two English books, and two French books, Grade 1's brought home two English books ! Please listen to your child read them to you over the weekend, and return the books on Monday so that they can be exchanged.
We ended our day with practicing printing the letter m in our books.
