This morning students wrote: "We have library tomorrow." in their agendas.

Students participated to the weekly assembly. After the assembly, Grade 1 and 2 students were partnered up with a Grade 5 student to do some paired reading. What a great way to encourage leadership in the grade 5's, and help our Grade 1's and 2's become better readers.

Back in the classroom, we completed our calendar time, and enjoyed the first of our many Grade 2 liquids sciences presentations.

After an indoor recess and a snack, we listened to three more grade 2 liquids presentations (and enjoyed trying them too).

In mathematics, we talked about the strategy: draw a picture. We learned that making a picture can help us with word problems!!! Students practiced a few times.

The class enjoyed music.

This afternoon, while the grade 1's were away for gym, Grade 2 students began to learn about Iqualuit. We started by listing all of the things we know about Iqualuit (cold, north, ice, polar bears etc) and what we would like to know about Iqualuit (what do people do there? What kind of transportation do they use etc.). We looked for Iqualuit on the globe, and explored its locations. We began to think about what we would pack if we went there.

Grade 2's had their final Zones lesson. Grade 1's learned about "being a good friend detective". We talked about using our spyglasses to notice when other students need space, and what emotion they are displaying. I encourage you: if you notice that your child is not respecting your feelings or those of others, remind them to be a good friend detective.

We ended our day with the rest of the Grade 2 science presentations.
