This morning grade 1 students wrote: "Please sign and return permission form" in their agenda's. As always, additional copies can be found under the permission forms tab on my website.

Grade 2 students wrote: "Ask me about the Saskatoon session." in their agenda's.

First thing today, grade 2's joined the other grade 2 classes and ventured to Saskatoon to learn how Ukrainian Superhero Settlers influenced life on the prairies. They learned about the skills and ideas the Ukrainians brought to Saskatoon, how their traditions are impacting life today, how they defeated the geographical challenges they faced, and finally they discovered the wonders of Ukrainian art, music and more.

During this time, grade 1's began to wonder how changes over time have affected their families and communities in the present. More specifically, using the timelines parents wrote in their agendas last week, they learned how changes, like births, deaths weddings have affected their family over time.

Then the grade 1's each shared what they discovered about what they wanted to plant in the garden. We reviewed our kind of soil, and then we decided what to plant (tomatos, carrots, broccoli, corn and mint)

After little recess and snack, the grade 2's re-joined us. The grade 2's practiced their break down addition strategy, while the grade 1's reviewed the "flip the equation" strategy. When some questions have a missing part ex: 17-___=9 it can be easier to "flip" the equation: 9+___=17. (this is a great video to show off how useful this strategy can be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1dmI5NtEac)

Students exchanged books at the library.

After big recess lunch and daily 5, students used the chromebooks to (continue g1) research facts about an animal of their choice (grade 1) or a bug of their choice (Grade 2)... They wrote some notes down, and will begin to insert them in a paper tomorrow.

We ended our day with some Daily Physical Activity outside in the sun!
