Monday May 1st 2017

This morning students wrote: "We have library tomorrow." in their agendas.

The class participated to our school assembly, and our four prayer readers did a fabulous job-it's not easy reading in front of an entire school... It was also announced that even numbered classes (including 1/2C) won the extra recess for bringing in the most loose change for the Holy Childhood Association! YAY!

When we returned to class, students completed a round of french daily 5, decoded the morning message, reviewed our week "Parlons Français!" goal, and completed calendar time. The class had a bit of time to share their French stories to a partner and start making some changes.

After little recess and snack, the class was re-launched into their addition and subtraction up to 18/100 unit. We started by practicing telling math stories, and grade 1's went and practiced writing and solving some. Grade 2's practiced breaking down numbers into smaller parts. 82 is like 80+2 or 50+30+2 etc. Students then enjoyed practicing their doubles.

Mme Dominique inspired the class with her music.

After lunch and big recess, grade 1's enjoyed Ringette with the UofA ringette girls, while the grade 2's began to learn about Saskatoon (location-Saskatchewan, how to get there-fly or drive, what to do there, what it looks like etc.)

When the grade 1's returned, students completed a round of Daily 5, then we talked about Ducks. We started by thinking of all the things that come to mind when someone says the animal: duck. Words were then placed into categories (Quack and fly are things they do, beak, feathers are things they look like etc.) THEN the class had to think of their own non-fiction topic, and what comes to mind when they do, then they were able to add to their books. Tomorrow we will finish our stories.
