Thursday March 2nd 2017

This morning grade 1 students wrote: "Ask me about urban and rural communities" in their agenda while grade 2 students wrote: "Ask me about Iqaluit's beginning."

First thing today, the class completed a round of Daily 5, followed by the decoding of our morning message. After this, we completed calendar time. In French, students completed one final "write a detailed sentence" activity, before transitioning to Social Studies.

In Social Studies, Grade 1 students used the ipads to watch a little story about a city mouse and a country mouse. They were then asked to write//draw the differences between the life of the city mouse and country mouse in a Venn diagram.

During this time, Grade 2 students began to learn about Iqaluit's beginning, specifically that the Inuit community was the first to arrive. They learned how the Inuit community lived-moving with the animals and the seasons, living in tents made out of animal skins or igloos.

After little recess and snack, students learned a fun numbers to 100 game. Each student receives 5/6 number cards to 100, then as a class we need to count to 100 as quickly as possible. Then we learned a fun skip counting game. Students skip count to 20 by 2's. Students can select to say one number (2) or two numbers (2,4) whoever says 20 must sit down.

In religion we learned about the church season of lent. We talked about ways that we can become closer to God (acts of kindness) and why it is important to become closer to Him.

This afternoon, students completed a round of Daily 5, and then we showed Frank (our school janitor) some kindness, by cleaning paper towels that were left on the floor.

Students enjoyed gym with Mme Harding.

We ended our day by continuing to work on our stories. The class was asked to read their story out loud to a friend, to help them hear changes they could make, and receive feedback (2 good things and a wish). We talked about wishes we could give-explain why this happened? or this didn't make sense etc.
