This morning students wrote: "Twin day is tomorrow!" in their agenda
Grade 2's left right at 9am for the Iqualuit in school field trip with either Mlle Shillaker or Mlle Wallin, ask them what they did! Thanks to our two grade 2 parents for helping out!!
During this time, grade 1's learned and determined what makes their communities thrive by exploring and reflecting upon the ways people cooperate in order to live together peacefully and how groups make decisions. We also reflected on how our actions and decisions contribute to the well-being of groups and communities. Then the grade 1's talked about the place they chose as their "favorite spot in St. Albert", they were asked why this spot helps make the community thrive. Finally, using seesaw, the picture they took and the voice recording tool, students described the place, and why it is important for our community.
For French, grade 1's added a new "winter page" to their dictionnaries. This page has some fun winter activities and winter equipment that the students will now be able to use in their writing. Using this new page, students made sentences (orally) in preparation for tomorrow's writing.
After little recess and snack, the grade 2's joined us in our classroom. We finished learning about near doubles (5+6 is like 5+5+1 or 6+6-1), ending our addition and subtraction unit.
Then we finished learning about how God calls us to love one another. We also learned the story of the call of the Apostles, to help us continue to understand that Jesus calls us to follow him.
This afternoon, we completed a round of daily 5, and we began to talk about parts of a story.
Students enjoyed gym.
We finished learning about parts of a story. Beginning's need to be exciting, and have a description of setting, middles build suspense or anticipation leading to the main event, and endings are filled with action leading to the solution of a problem or the conclusion of an adventure. Students began to plan their own stories.
