This morning your child wrote: "Bring a stuffy day on Monday" in his/her agenda. Because we spoke so much French over the past few weeks, this was the decided prize. With that being said, if you wish, you can send your child to school with a stuffy on Monday!
We only had time to go through our calendar document this morning, before it was time for a small snack, pricks with poppies and a little recess.
Once back in the classroom after little recess, we reviewed the expectations for the Remembrance day ceremony.
The school participated to the ceremony. Thank you to all parents who attended.
After the ceremony, students enjoyed a second small snack.
We had a classroom discussion about what we understood of Remembrance day. We also talked about some of the prayers we heard.
We then read a book called "What do you do with a problem?" This is a story of a persistent problem and the child who isn't so sure what to make of it. The longer the problem is avoided, the bigger it seems to get. But when the child finally musters up the courage to face it, the problem turns out to be something quite different than expected. This led us to have a fantastic discussion about problems, and why we need to face them.
The grade 1's were evaluated on their ability to recognize and represent a given number as well as being able to name the number that is one more, one less, two more, two less.
Grade 2's were evaluated on their skip counting abilities.
This afternoon, the class did a long round of read to self, followed by some gym with Mme Harding. They ended the day with writers workshop.
