This morning grade 1 students wrote: “Practice English sight words.” and Grade 2’s wrote: “Read a French book to mom or dad.” in their agendas.
We had a conversation about completing our morning work today. We talked about the expectations that I have when students enter the classroom; walking in quietly, finding a spot completing your agenda, then reading a book-avoiding visiting. In order to help 1/2C have better habits, I have decided that for every time I must remind them of the behaviors I expect, they will miss 1 minute of a fun activity, be it Music, Art, Gym, Daily Physical Activity, Library or recess. The class is allowed to re-gain that minute if they are consistent in showing proper classroom behaviours.
Once that conversation was finished we worked on our calendar document.
Grade 1’s then found the combo sounds and French word wall words they recognized in a new little French book called “Petite Sorcière, Petite Sorcière, que vois tu?” They were surprised that they could read the majority of the book.
Grade 2’s continued to work on describing their Halloween costumes.
In gym we had a blast playing soccer.
Mathematics proved to be very busy for the grade 1’s, as they began the chips for a human sized ten grid. We practiced representing one more, two more, one less, two less than a given number. They then did some work in their mathematics book.
Grade 2’s worked in their Social Studies mapping book, and continued to identify the location of certain objects on the map thanks to the compass rose. Grade 2’s then learnt about odd and even numbers. We talked about the place of the unit-if the unit in the number is 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 the number is odd, if the unit is the numbers 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 the number is even. We especially talked about how even numbers all have buddies, and odd numbers do not.
Students exchanged books at the library.
This afternoon, we completed a round of quiet read to self.
We then subscribed to my google classroom, where your child completed their first assignment: “What do you think of google classroom?” It was fun to see the answers-some students found it complicated, others thought it was fun! Your child then learnt how to comment on another friends post. It was loads of work… but the beginning of a great form of learning!
