This morning students wrote: ''Year end swim tomorrow" in their agendas.

We started our day with a really cool presentation by the Running Thunder Dancers of Edmonton. This was a good way for us to celebrate Aboriginal Day, and learn a little bit more about the First Nations Métis and Inuit.

When we returned to class, we discussed what the presentation was about, and how the Aboriginals are important to us.

We then decoded the morning message and completed calendar time.

After little recess and snack, students practiced identifying 2D shapes in the environment... We had fun playing I-Spy, where students needed to describe the shape they were seeing, and the friend had to guess what it was (I spy a figure that had 4 equal sides and 4 corners...)

We practiced our French plays.

In the afternoon, while grade 1's participated to the Lions Club Canada Day presentation, grade 2's learned about adaptations. We started by defining what the word adaptation means: Something that living being must do to be able to survive. Then the grade 2's had to wonder and predict what adaptations insects could possibly have. We learned that insects have wings to fly away from predators. Skeletons outside their body to protect them from danger. Big googly eyes to see, and antennas to smell/communicate.

When grade 1's returned, we completed a round of Daily 5, then we learned about safe and responsible use of medications as well as safe and responsible use of various household/ garage substances. We mainly discussed being careful and before using anything, read the label. And if you don't know what the object is... ask someone for help, and do not touch it!

Students ended their day in Music with Mme Dominique's substitute.
