This morning students wrote: "No school tomorrow or Friday" in their agendas.
Grade 1's were tested on their sight words this morning. Grade 2's did not have gym as we are following the Friday schedule.
Students completed a round of French Daily 5, followed by the morning message and calendar time. With the morning message we are focusing on highlighting vowels that are "married" with an r (the letter is r after the vowel) for example: participer (ar makes an ar sound, and the letters a&r must be kept together)
Grade 2's continued to work on the two verbs to be = "être", and to have = "avoir". We talked about how the comprehension of the use of these two verbs is very important for mastering the French language. Today we used them with the word you "tu" . Tu as (avoir), tu es (être). Students were asked to describe someone using those two verbs.
During this time, Grade 1 students were given a book: "Tip et Tap dans la neige." in which they highlighted all of the combos, soft c's/g's and circled words they recognized. On Monday we will practice reading this book, and it will be sent home later in the week.
In Social Studies, we concluded the grade 1 circles project by reviewing how each of the circles represent something that we belong to. This was sent home.
After indoor recess and snack (and a special birthday boy snack), one of our Grade 2 students presented her very special MapleLea from Iqualuit Nunavut-she will be accompanying us in learning about Iqualuit this term.
Grade 1's practiced some doubles math games, grade 2's learned about the equal sign, and the "not equal" sign (I can't seem to figure out how to make it on my keyboard!) Grade 2's were asked to write if two equations were equivalent to each other or not.
In religion, we learned about the golden rule.
This afternoon we completed a round of daily 5, followed by finishing our valentine's day cards.
We ended our day with our reading log prize.
