This morning, students wrote: "Check out my library books!" in their agendas. A letter regarding the READ-IN week was sent home, it is in your child's pochette.

Today, your child was encouraged to read to self in French for 5 minutes.

Following this, we completed our morning message. We met our new French words of the week: "aussi, il, elle, y, a" students were asked to make sentences using those words.

In the gym we played jumping games.

After little recess, we read a funny monster book, we discussed what the monster was eating that was so gross, and why I chose the book (Halloween is coming!)

We then had a very long class meeting about recess, where we recognized community helpers, and identified how to seek their help; in our case, this would be the recess monitors (Ensure we only seek their help after we have done our best to solve the problem). We also recognized and demonstrated various ways to express feelings; e.g., verbal and nonverbal, we especially reinforced telling the person to stop, telling them what they are doing that is upsetting us, and walking away. If the person persists, we would go to the monitor.

Students went to the library where they took out 2 French books and 1 English book. Your child brought home a bright green and crinkly bag, this is their book sleeping bag! Please keep the books in there so that they do not get lost.

This afternoon we practiced read to self, we then read our afternoon message. We met our new words of the week: "look, was, said, is and big". We found those words in our message.

Students also learned another reading rule: "two vowels go walking"-the first one does the talking, and so for example, in boat, the o says its own name.... Here is a video in case you are looking to learn: two vowels go walking

Our Writers Workshop mini-lesson today was "go back to old writing and add". Grade 1 students were encouraged to go back to old writing and add more specific details.

Grade 2's reviewed the three big parts to a story, and began to make their own story plans.

We ended our day with drawing what we are thankful for on a key, which will be glued onto our doors.
