Tuesday February 17th 2016 DAY 100!!!
Happy 100th Day everyone!
Today was indeed a day to celebrate... 100 days of learning means 100 days smarter :)
The number 100 is such a perfect number, because it gives us grade 1 teachers a great excuse for introducing the numbers up to 100 Math unit... aren't we sly? However, we do also love days where we can learn and have twice as much fun-Adults are kids at heart too.
This morning students wrote in their agenda's "Practice English Sight Words." However I'm sure you will ALL hear about the 100th day instead :)
We then read a book about the 100th day, and the wonderful things we can do to count up to 100.
During our calendar time, we got to finally be upgraded to using a hundredth rather than the ten and unit blocs. This was super duper exciting, and funny, because now Mlle needs to get another new container!!!
Students made some 100th day crowns, using 10 small strips of paper to draw 10 different things on each strip, which means that when you count each strip you'll count by 10, making a total of 100 things!!! Hopefully this makes more sens when you receive the crown...
After small recess, we made our 100th day snack... Selecting ten groups of ten snacks to make 100, how delicious!
Students then enjoyed a bloc of Music with Mme Dominique.
We loved listening to our Grade 1 friends present their super awesome 100 collections, we saw a measuring tape cut up in its 100 inches, 100 popcorn kernels, a picture of 10 groups of 10 making 100, and many many more things!!
We then did a little bit of 100th day dancing to get our bodies moving.
After lunch and big recess, students did their regular daily 5, but AFTERWARDS... they did some bucket list writing. They wrote about all of the things they will do by the time they turn 100 years old. These will be hanging in our boot room, so please come and check them out, as there are some really funny pictures AND some incredible writing.
Students exchanged their library books.
Of course, to end our day with a BANG, students were able to play and use balloons to make groups of 10. We started off by counting the balloons by 1's, 2's and then we distributed them in groups of 10. We attempted 5, but that was tough with the wind! However, I think the best part of the balloons was the part where we got to POP them!!!!
I hope that your child had an AWESOME 100th day, as I know I did.
Thank you to all parents for participating with sending in snacks for our 100th snack and sending in 100 collection posters. Without you, today would've certainly not been possible!
