Thursday December 1st 2016
This morning students wrote "Please check your e-mail" in their agendas. The promised e-mail has been sent!
Our morning went as per usual, students arrived, wrote in their agenda's, read to self/partner/listened to a story, as a class we decoded our morning message, and went through our calendar activities.
Following this, grade 1's added a little monster body parts dictionary page to their French dictionaries, they then wrote about the monster they drew on Friday last week, following a given model. Grade 2's began to describe their dinosaurs, talking about where they live, what they do etc.
After small recess, and snack we read the book: A Charlie Brown Christmas, and we focused our attention into what little Linus said to explain to Charlie Brown what Christmas is: "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night, and lo the angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid, and the angel said unto them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior, tis Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly hosts, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.". Thanks to Linus, the class was able to remember what Christmas is all about, and how the season of Advent leads us into the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Following our Religion lesson, grade 1's completed their math "Numbers up to 20" unit, by showing the different combinations that make 20.
Grade 2's did their spelling work. After this, they practiced their little "trick" for remembering the difference between the number 60&70, 80&90.
Afterwards, the class learned about writing good story beginnings. We talked about how the beginning of a story has to interest your reader right away. Each student wrote the beginning for a story that has a plot of seeing a mermaid/sea monster.. it was quite interesting.
After lunch and big recess, we participated to the Advent celebration, which allowed the class to really get into the spirit of Christmas.
The class enjoyed gym with Mme Harding.
Once back in the classroom we completed the advent activity: each student received a candle. On this candle, they wrote the name of their secret friend from the class and a message of how this person illuminates the lives of others.
