This morning the class wrote: "Check out my new Seesaw post." in their agendas.
New Grade 1 Spring-themed French flash cards were sent home this morning, a reminder that you can find a video of me saying the names of all the objects under the Français Tab on my website.
The class completed a round of Daily 5, decoded the morning message and were guided through our calendar time by a grade 1 student. Then the grade 1's were asked to, using Seesaw, justify the way they classified the animals they worked with yesterday. Most student classified the animals based on appearances, abilities and nutritional habits.
Grade 2's filled out a page "all about the Inuit"-They needed to note where we can find the Inuit community (Canada, Northwest Territories, Iqaluit), they languages they speak (Inuktitut and English) what they wear (animal skins, kamiks (type of boots), anorak (type of jacket)) the music they listen to and play (throat singing, drums) the games they play (tir au cou (neck pulling) snowdog races, igloo building contests) and some things they eat (caribou, fish etc). They then video-taped themselves talking about the Inuits of Iqaluit.
After little recess and snack the class worked on their measurement skills. Grade 1's learned about measuring and comparing capacity of different containers while the grade 2's worked on finding an object that had the length, height and distance around totalling to 10.
In religion we continued to learn about Jesus' resurrection and the symbols/traditions we have to celebrate.
After lunch and big recess, the class completed a round of Daily 5, then enjoyed gym with Mme Harding. Back in our classroom, we read a non-fiction book to remind us that our information needs to be clear, then students continued to add to their own books. Late next week we will use google slides to make our non-fiction books look real!
