This morning students wrote: "Wear red tomorrow" in their agendas.
This morning with Mme Guylaine, grade 1 students took the time to draw for her the groups they belong to, they also had a good discussion about belonging to St. Albert, Alberta, Canada.
Grade 2's continued to write about their little monsters.
After snack, grade 1's were taken away for Music with both 1A and 1B.
Grade 2's learned about "isolants". They were then told that they had the challenge to protect iqualuit from melting, and so they need to build something to keep an icecube cold. They will begin the plan on Monday.
When the grade 1's returned, grade 2's completed an activity with using pennies, nickels, and dimes. Grade 1's played some one more, two more, one less, two less adding games.
The class participated to another anti-bullying lesson: I had dropped an apple repeatedly on the floor during the day, and kept one apple safe and sound. The class was asked to compare the two apples (of course the dropped apple did not look as if it had been dropped), and their results were that the apples looked good and nice. The class was then encouraged to be mean to the dropped apple, calling it ugly, gross etc. and then they said nice things to the un-dropped apple. The sub then cut into the dropped apple (the apple they said unkind things to) and the class was surprised to see how all of these unkind words created such a bruise.
The class was led to realize that unlike an apple, we have the ability to stop these hurtful words from happening. We can teach children that it's not ok to say unkind things to each other and discuss how it makes others feel. We can teach our children to stand up for each other and to stop any form of bullying, just as one little girl did today when she refused to say unkind words to the apple. More and more hurt and damage happens inside if nobody does anything to stop the bullying. Let's create a generation of kind, caring children. The tongue has no bones, but is strong enough to break a heart. So be careful with your words.
In the afternoon, the class participated to their afternoon message followed by gym with Mme Harding.
They ended their day with a review of adjectives, followed by some writers workshop.
