This morning your grade 1 child wrote: "Practice counting backwards in French" in his/her agenda.

The Grade 2 students rushed off to gym with Mme Harding and Mme Shillaker's grade 2 class.

While the Grade 2's were away, the grade 1's were tested on sight words, they also began to compare the effect of different thicknesses of paint. Their discovery was that thin layers make a color transparent and thick layers make opaque. They were then asked to create a colour that matched a given sample, by mixing the appropriate amounts of two primary colours. They needed to mix red and blue, with a little bit of white, but more red than blue. It was interesting to see the results!

When the grade 2's returned, they wrote: "Ask me about thermometers." in their agendas.

The whole class participated to decoding our calendar message. They were asked to find the combo sounds we'd been practicing in French, as well as a few word wall words. Following this, we proceeded through our calendar.

Grade 1's were then evaluated on their ability to understand and follow simple oral directions in French as well as refer to a pattern to correctly order words in a sentence. I would ask them to draw something in particular, which they would then write about.

During this time, grade 2's completed their Wednesday (write sentences with your spelling words!) and Thursday (put the words in alphabetical order!) spelling work.

After small recess, the class practiced reading to self in French.

Grade 1's continued to identify how they belong and are connected to their world, by drawing their groups, as well as adding that they are a part of St. Albert, which is a part of Alberta, which is a part of Canada, and Canada is part of the WORLD! After this, they were asked to complete their "number of the day" work.

During this time, grade 2's learned about thermometers. We learned about what is inside of a thermometer and how it rises and falls. We also discussed how you can measure temperature in degrees Celsius ( ̊C). Your child was then asked to  compare temperatures using relative terms like: "this place is hotter than/colder than... because..."

Finally, we continued to look through the apostles creed, settling that the reason we say this prayer is to keep in mind that God created everything and that it all has a purpose.

This afternoon, we decoded yet another message that lacked proper use of capital letters and punctuation, the class helped me correct it. Following this, they practiced using proper punctuation in their own writing.

The class ended the day in music with Mme Dominique.
