This morning students wrote "Half-day tomorrow" in their agendas. Please remember that your child's day ends at 12:36pm. The busses will be there to pick them up!
Students participated to our morning message, which modeled the expected writing that the grade 1's were later asked to do.
Following this, the grade 1's wrote about what a witch put into a cauldron, they also drew it.
Grade 2's began to label the parts of their costume that they drew yesterday. (Writing what's "special" about their costume-ie. a hat, gloves, claws etc.) tomorrow Grade 2's will begin to write about their costume using a planning paper.
After small recess the class completed a small numbers evaluation. I said a number out loud, and they needed to write it down. Grade 1's numbers stayed between 0-20 and grade 2 numbers were mainly between 60-100.
We read a book in French called Les 13 nuits d'Halloween, read to the tune of the 12 days of Christmas. We acted out the different creatures in the book.
The class did a few halloween brain breaks. We also watched a clip from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" which led us into talking about being safe outside during Trick or Treating, and making sure to stay with people we know.
Grade 1's then reviewed what they learnt about light and dark colors, specifically reviewing that if you add white it becomes lighter (plus pâle) and if you add black it becomes darker (plus foncée) they then had the opportunity to organize paint swatches from darkest to lightest.
Grade 2's practiced skip counting in a new math booklet.
Grade 1's then transitioned into "the number of the day" (13) which practiced representing this number in many different ways.
Grade 2's began to learn about maps, we talked about globes, and maps and birds-view. We also began to learn about compasses, and how they show a direction. We talked about the acronym Never Eat Shredded Wheat, to remember directions.
*MOST students brought home their finished printing books! Those that are not completed will complete it during their "busy work" time.*
Students enjoyed their Hot Lunch.
This afternoon the class did a long round of read to self.
They enjoyed gym with Mme Harding.
We ended our day by reviewing the expectations of Writers Workshop, and then practiced Writers Workshop.
